I'm a highly motivated individual looking to further my career as a web developer, while also broadening my skill base by continuing my education through seminars and training. On-going training is essential to broaden your knowledge of roles in the IT Industry. While I've been fortunate to have gained years of experience working in various IT roles, which includes leading an IT team, I know you can never learn enough in this industry. My passion for computers and technology started at a young age, and has continued to progress and grow over time, developing from entry level web design and IT support into full blown content creation with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and backend Java coding practices.
Outside of work I have a passion for volleyball, which includes playing in local leagues and coaching a local club team with my wife. If I had to give a personal favorite quote or mantra, it would be the Golden Rule. I believe that you should always treat others the way that you want to be treated as following this standard often creates the best outcome for all parties.

current state
In looking at my career, I'm currently working in a role that I had aspired to be in for several years, designing and coding web pages. As a web developer for Walmart's corporate Intranet site, the Walmart Information Resource Exchange (WIRE), I get to utilize my strengths of analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Our team is involved in providing critical communications to our stores by providing guidance on designs and elements that make digital communications easy to read, comprehend, and retain for our associates. While I see this place in my career as a place of being contempt, I also aspire to move towards a role in software development.
where I'm headed
The role of software developer requires a Bachelor's degree, and often times can require certifications that demonstrate your knowledge and ability to code in certain language or to analyze data structures for use in a database. In my current role I'm gaining knowledge on the data structure side, while also coding in an object-oriented language to increase my understanding of how code is structured and works.
In the current market, Python and Hadoop are popular technologies that I need to invest my time into and learn to progress towards my goal of finding a software developer role. With my time commitment to my current role being fulfilled, I am looking for opportunities in my company, and outside, for roles that match the skillset I have gained in my role of web developer. The main hindrance in pursuing the next step has been a lack of a degree, but I expect for that fulfillment to be in place by May of 2018, allowing me to speak to the progress I've made in furthering my education while also working on in my career of choice.

I have a 3 year plan that consists of further learning, networking, and research about specific companies that align with my personal goals and morals.
- Next 6 months:
- Graduate with my Bachelors Degree of Professional Studies.
- Look for programming language certification to complete.
- I'll reach these goals by staying on task in class and using down time to research certifications that are available in Python, JavaScript, or Java.
- 6 to 18 months
- Found and completed at least two programming certifications.
- Applied for and completed at least two interviews for a software developer role.
- I will reach these goals by building on my research I complete during the next 6 months towards programming certifications, and by building a LinkedIn profile to help with networking and finding corporate contacts for roles that I qualify for.
- 18 months+
- I plan to be in a new role and working towards advancement in that role.
- Look towards what is needed to advance into those roles and create another short and mid-term plan towards achieving those goals.
- From my current knowledge, software developer roles allow for mentoring with other developers, and as you are able to provide more knowledge about an application, or suite of applications, you are provided with a chance to advance to a senior level of software programmer, or possibly even software engineer.

My primary leadership style is democratic and my secondary style is forecaster. While I enjoy learning and having a deep knowledge of the initiatives I'm working on, I also value the input of others and I enjoy hearing ideas from the group that improve our team's ability to meet the needs of the business that we serve. While I know that a leader must be the owner of the final decision that is made, it is highly important to gather input from the team before making that decision and implementing the change to provide greater buy in from the team.
I also identify with the suggestion that I thrive in situations where I can create or improve a product or process as I currently do that in my role today. As an example, my team had an existing process for creating web forms that allowed for mistakes to occur in the process because an intimate knowledge of HTML was needed to execute the process. Using my knowledge of the JavaScript language and HTML5, I was able to better the existing process by creating a visual method that allows the team to create a survey without writing or knowing any HTML code.
From my experience, my leadership style is best applied in a workplace setting where a team has the time needed to gather data relevant to the project and they can work collaboratively to find a solution that best serves the business. I enjoy seeing a team that works well by communicating and not being afraid to fail fast and transition to a new idea when the results don't meet expectations.
