As a student of Arkansas Tech University, I set out to pursue a Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) with a specialty in Information Technology (IT). In earning this degree, you must show the ability to communicate, research, lead, and manage as it relates to an IT environment. The program covers a wide range of topics relating to the IT world, and ensures that the graduate will be able to successfully work in a team oriented environment they will likely meet upon graduation.
During my time in the program I've completed public speaking courses, designed to improve presentation skills and increase the comfort level of speaking to an audience of any size. Courses focused on IT have given me the knowledge to not only work on an IT team that is comprised of global members, but also the knowledge to manage a team comprised of global members. Key factors in communication, cultural differences, and project management were covered in detail using up to date and relevant examples for today's working force.
Developing a strong sense of project creation, design, management, and successful completion were also a top priority for this program. Understanding how projects are started, and developing the proper communication plan for successfully planning and gaining sponsorship are critical learnings from the program. The strategy of the project creation and completion was not a solo effort, helping to reinforce the team learnings and insights from courses taken in the BPS-IT program.
The communication, leadership, and project management skills obtained in the BPS-IT program will aid me as I continue my career in the IT environment. While the program did not provide an in-depth knowledge of programming languages or system configurations, I've been fortunate enough to work in a role that has provided those skills to fill in the gaps for a fully rounded IT professional.
Future aspirations for my career are working in Web Development, specifically in the role of a Full Stack Developer that can create pages on the front-end that interact with personally written code on the back-end servers. I would love to also find a role as a Software Engineer, potentially using existing knowledge of JavaScript, or by learning a new language that contributes to the organization in need. No matter where the path takes me, I'm confident in performing at a high level in a cohesive team environment thanks to the instruction and training of the BPS-IT program.

current issue in the it industry
As part of our graduation requirements in our capstone class, we were challenged to write a paper on a current issue facing our area of study. The research and information for this project is contained here.
